TOYO TIRES XJS CHAMPIONSHIP

Race 1 - Saturday
A healthy 21 Jaguars line up with Derek Pearce, Chris Palmer and Paul Merrett the top 3 qualifiers. When the red lights went out Derek got a good start but it was Stuart Lyddall who went from 5th to 3rd and by the end of lap 1 was up to 2nd and hot on the heels of Pearce. On lap 7 the rain started and the reduced grip gave Stuart a slight advantage so that he passed Derek a lap later to take Class G and race win.

Class F winner Chris Palmer was 3rd.

Cliff Ryan who was 4th on the grid had an awful start and dropped back 12th but with some great driving Cliff clawed his way back up the field to finish 4th.

Race 2 - Sunday
In race 2 it was Pearce who got the better start and led into Riches Corner, but that wasn't to last as once again Stuart Lyddall had 'the bit between his teeth' and again passed Derek before the end of lap 1. Cliff Ryan also passed Pearce and these 3 V12's battled it out. Stuart turned out to be the victor with two wins out of two and another Class G win, Cliff was 2nd some 12 seconds behind and Derek 3rd admitting that 'the car set up was wrong and he was running out of fuel'.

Else-where Lawrence Ball was flying, taking Class E win and 5th in race 1 and 6th in race 2, Andrew Harrison, Matt Skelton and Lawrence Coppock were involved in a great battle between themselves, Harrison was 7th and 10th respectively, Skelton 10th and 9th, Coppock 8th and 7th and Hastings a great 6th and 8th.

JEC POWERED BY JAGUAR

Race 1 - Saturday
The Powered By Jaguar race had 10 Jaguars entered and was combined with the Sports Car V Saloons Challenge to make up a grid of 33 cars, mainly Caterhams.

The highest qualifying Jaguar was Richard Masters. His V12 XJS put in a very fast 1.23 minutes lap time but in the race it was all in vain as Richard retired on lap 3 into the pits with mechanical problems.

This left the door open for Ken Paton in his D-Type to take up the reigns and take Class JC and race win with another V12 XJS belonging to Cliff Ryan a close 2nd.

Third and Class JE winner was the XJS of Lawrence Coppock.

Nick Gwinnutt's X-300 had to work hard to gain some breathing space as Neil Taylor's modern S-Type was all over his rear bumper for a few laps.

Blake Humphrey finished 7th.

Race 2 - Sunday
Just 5 Jaguars made it into a grid of 24. Ken Paton was quickest off the line when the red lights went out but when Ken approached the chicane at Russell he was hit by a pink Caterham that sent his car spinning and then to stall on the racing line, fortunately everyone got around him safely but by the time Ken restarted he was at the back of the field.

Allen Glover in his Luego Viento was now leading with Harry Wyndham's E-Type close behind. On lap 6, third placed Cliff Ryan spun at Revett Straight and his car was left in a dangerous position causing the race to be red flagged.

Allen Glover was declared race and Class JC winner.

JAGUAR CLASSIC PARTS JAGUAR SALOON CHALLENGE

Race 1 - Saturday
Twenty-one cars on the grid with Tim Morrant on pole, Richard Dorlin 2nd and Dave Bye 3rd. In race 1 when the red lights went out Morrant had a bad start (his new front discs must have stuck fast!) and he lost a few places. Richard now led with Howard Kirkham up to 2nd. Dave Bye was 3rd and a lap later 2nd. Richard and Dave pulled away from the rest of the pack but the 7 second gap between 1st and 2nd was too much for Dave who had to settle for 2nd place. Richard was Class B and race winner, a well earned first blood of the season as he had had to replace his head gasket between qualifying and race.

Phil Woods was the Class A winner with a brilliant drive, starting 14th and finishing 3rd. Ken Angel was only 1.2 seconds behind Phil to take 4th place from 9th on the grid. Peter Dorlin's excellent MK II was 5th and Class D winner.

There was still more racing down the field between Chris Boon (XJR), Howard Kirk ham (XJ40), Neil Taylor (modern S-Type), Tim Morrant (XJ6) and Nick Gwinnutt (X-300). These 5 swapped places throughout the race, finishing in 6th to 10th places but with only 3 seconds separating them.

Race 2 - Sunday
Richard Dorlin went into the lead at the first bend with Dave Bye a whisker behind and they played cat and mouse up to lap 9 when Dave found a gap to pass Richard, then held on for another couple of laps to take Class B and race win.

Simon Lewis of Surrey had a great race when he started at the back of the grid and after lap 1 was up to 14th place then finished the race 10th and take Class A win.

We must also give a warm welcome to some new rookies to Jaguar racing in the form of Ian Drage of Herts in a XJS, Duncan Ross of Uxbridge in a XJ6 and a seventeen year old Patrick Doyle in a XJ6 coupe and yes, you guessed right, son of Hannibal Doyle!
